How do I know if my Blackberry is Unlocked?
Cellfservices has had some customers purchase an unlock code only to find out that their phone is already unlocked. We would like to clarify that there are 2 methods to see if your phone is unlocked.
The easiest method for Blackberry users is to do the following…
1.) Go to options
2.) Advanced Options
3.) SIM Card
4.) Type MEPD. (You will not see any text appear) — Here you will see a list like the above image.
Normally, all categories are listed as “Disabled” except the Network Category. If your phone is unlocked, it will say Disabled beside the Network category. This means your phone is already unlocked
The best and fool proof way for all phones is to put a SIM card into the phone that is not locked to the same carrier. (Ex. Put an AT&T SIM card into your T-mobile phone). I’m sure you have people within your social network that are not on the same carrier.

Hi i just purchased a blackberry curve 8900 and network says active. Does this mean its still locked? I am moving to South America, and i want to use my phone there, is it going to work perfectly with the phone being unlocked? this is my first time doing this. thanks for the time
Yes. Active means that your phone is still locked. You’ll have to unlock that to use it in South America.
What if all of the above say “unknown”? Is it locked or unlocked?
That means that the phone has been banned ore reported as lost or stolen.
I have 8900 with AT&T. when page opens (like above) only sim card disabled, ID and phone number appears. I’m unable to type mepd.
I just bought a Blackberry 9650 and checked to see if my phone is unlocked. I followed your instructions but I only see. SIM Card: Security Disabled. Then ID: with a bunch of numbers following it. I typed MEPD but got nothing.
hey what if they all say disabled except “network” says inactive?
does that mean the same thing as disabled?
I have a Verizon BB 8830 without a SIM card. When I go through the steps of finding out whether or not the phone is locked to Verizon, all the personalizations for SIM, Network, Network Subset, Service Provider, and Corporate come up as “Unknown”. Does this mean that I’m “locked” or “unlocked”? I was expecting to see either Network “Active” – that is “Locked”, or Network “Inactive” – that is “unlocked”. Thanks for your reply in advance.
On CDMA phones such as Verizon and Sprint, they will say inactive instead of disabled. If it is ‘inactive’, then it is unlocked
Try to exit out of the SIM card options and reenter the SIM card options. MEPD does not need to be typed in Capital letters.
My bb 9700 is saying security disabled..I’d: and phone number
it won’t let me type anything else in. Not sure
if it’s locked or unlocked?? Can’t make or
recieve calls.
