Try to exit out of the SIM card options and reenter the SIM card options. MEPD does not need to be typed in Capital letters.

On CDMA phones such as Verizon and Sprint, they will say inactive instead of disabled. If it is 'inactive', then it is unlocked :)

I have a Verizon BB 8830 without a SIM card. When I go through the steps of finding out whether or not the phone is locked to Verizon, all the personalizations for SIM, Network, Network Subset, Service Provider, and Corporate come up as "Unknown". Does this mean that I'm "locked" or "unlocked"? I was expecting to see either Network "Active" - that is "Locked", or Network "Inactive" - that is "unlocked". Thanks for your reply in advance.

I just bought a Blackberry 9650 and checked to see if my phone is unlocked. I followed your instructions but I only see. SIM Card: Security Disabled. Then ID: with a bunch of numbers following it. I typed MEPD but got nothing.

Yes. Active means that your phone is still locked. You'll have to unlock that to use it in South America.
