Cell phone unlocking News and Answers

How do I know if my Blackberry is Unlocked?

Cellfservices has had some customers purchase an unlock code only to find out that their phone is already unlocked.  We would like to clarify that there are 2 methods to see if your phone is unlocked.

The easiest method for Blackberry users is to do the following…

1.) Go to Options
2.) Advanced Options (If you don’t see this entry: Device>Advanced System Settings)
3.) SIM Card
4.) Type MEPD.  (You will not see any text appear) — Here you will see a list like the above image.

Normally, all categories are listed as “Disabled” except the Network Category.   If your phone is unlocked, it will say Disabled or Inactive beside the Network category.  This means your phone is already unlocked :).  Before you decide if you want to unlock your BlackBerry, you should also check to see if your BlackBerry is hard locked.  With hard locked BlackBerry phones, even with a correct code, you will not be able to enter in the unlock code.

The best and fool proof way for all phones is to put a SIM card into the phone that is not locked to the same carrier.  (Ex. Put an AT&T SIM card into your T-mobile phone).  I’m sure you have people within your social network that are not on the same carrier.

If you’ve checked everything above and your phone is still locked, you can get your BlackBerry unlock code from our store.

I did this using SIM card from another carrier and everything is disabled except network says active. Across the top it says No Valid Sim Card. I can only make SOS calls. What does this mean?

  • jonathan says:

hi my phone say in network inactive and all the other part except network say disable that mean that i can’t unlock my phone :(

  • georgewhitehouse says:

i called up my network because i couldnt make calls or texts from my blackberry that ive just had off a freind im on 02 so i called them up gave them my imei and they said it was locked to orange evn though it says disabled for everything. would it work if i put a orange sim card in?

    • admin says:

@georgewhitehouse: If your device says “disabled” for everything, it will work with any SIM Card, yes. The info from the carrier just means that the unlock was not performed through them so they don’t have it on file.

  • admin says:

@Shaheem Khan: Yes, that means your Blackberry is fully unlocked!

  • Shaheem Khan says:

hi my blackberry sim part says inactive and all else is disabled does that mean its unlocked?

  • admin says:

@Dahyim: The symptoms you state indicate that your phone’s IMEI is blacklisted with the carrier. This happens if your device was reported lost/stolen at one point. In this case your phone won’t work even if it is properly unlocked.

  • admin says:

@Ahmed: That indicates that either your SIM Card is not correctly inserted, not activated or not compatible to your device.

  • Ahmed says:

my black berry curve show me an empty page that sais on top “SIM Card: No Valid SIM Card”

  • R2ndur says:

And it still shows “Vodafone” as a background although my network isn´t. What should I do?

  • R2ndur says:

I have a Blackberry Curve 8360 and “Network” part says Inactive. All the others are Disabled. Should it be unlocked? It still doesn´t let me make phone calls or send text messages. What could be the problem?
    Thank you in advance!

  • Lucas says:

I have a 9930 sprint and i tried to have my phone unlocked in Milan and now it says everything is disabled except for network which states: Blocked. What does this mean!!! Thank you

    • admin says:

Blocked typically means that the number of tries you have tried to enter the unlock code have been exhausted. If you tried to unlock it yourself and started guessing codes, then you’re out of luck and your phone appears to be hard locked.

Hi all, quick q – After I press MEPD, every item is “disabled” EXCEPT “service provider”. Is this unlocked?

I bought and tried to unlock but when I press MEP2, no prompt comes up which led me to think it’s already unlocked.

    Thanks in advance!

Hi this may sound silly, but I’m not a tech savvy person, so I need help!

I bought my phone, a blackberry 9530 from a website and it obviously says verizon and I live in India.. So I googled a lot since my SIM card did not work at first and after the ##000000 procedure I got my vodafone india Sim to work.. However I have no EDGE on my phone.. Till yday after every hard reboot I had an EDGE and then within 10 mins(it wouldnt let me open any page online) and then it switched back to edge soon.. So again I googled, and now after a hard reboot I dont even get EDGE, just edge always..

Anyways now I’m wondering if my phone is actually unlocked.. I assumed it was..

    My SIM card stuff says…

SIM card : Security enabled (its my vodafone Sim after the ##000000)

    ID: ———————–
    Personalization:
    SIM : Disabled
    Network : Inactive
    Network subset: Disabled
    Network provider: Disabled
    Corporate : Disabled

    Locked or unlocked??

Any help would be highly appreciated
    Thanks!

    • admin says:

Your phone is definitely unlocked. In order to get the EDGE (data services) working, you’ll need to redirect your service books to your phone. You must first have a BlackBerry internet service plan which you can get from your wireless carrier. Then you can ask them to send the service books to your phone. Best of luck!

  • Valorie Thieme says:

Hello, currently in Kenya and have a BB bold from the US I have unlocked the cell and all things as listed in the SIM CARD say disabled. However I am unable to use the BB service for internet, have tried others sim that are able to use the service. I am being told that the reason I can’t use the internet service is my network is locked but it’s saying disabled? Is there a way to unlock to use the internet? The phone was originally a Altell BB that worked fine in the US. Thanks for you help :-)
PS. I can use the phone for txt and calling just fine on the network here in Kenya.

    • admin says:

A lot of other sellers send random numbers hoping that the buyer will not contact them again. I would recommend getting a refund and trying our unlock store. We have a 100% working method for all BlackBerries around the world. You can view our hard locked tutorial or the already unlocked tutorial and make your decision from there.

  • raaz says:

    how bb become hard lock?

    • admin says:

If you enter in too many incorrect tries to unlock your BlackBerry, it will become hard locked – forever locked.

Hey men, i have a blackberry storm 2 so i cant type MPED cause theres no keyboard.
    What should i do?

  • Lori says:

I should have added that I get a ‘no valid sim card’ msg also. Is there even a sim card in my bb 9530?

  • Lori says:

checking to see if my blackberry 9530 is locked (which it is) and network is shown as ‘unknown’. It’s my understanding that this means the phone was lost or stolen, which is defnintely not the case with my phone. I am the only owner and paid over $400 for it. However, I was not happy with my carrier and cancelled it while still owing them money (so they say). Could they have done something to bugger my phone so that I can’t unlock it?

I was going abroad, and wanted to take my 8830 with me on trip, after reading and calling verizon, I came to know that it will take some time before I can get the phone unlocked with the code, then I did more reasearch on google and other forums, and come to know there is an Instant service available to get blackberry mep code, I ordered it and got the code with in few minutes, which came with instrructions and my phone was unlocked within seconds. You can get your instant blackberry unlock code from here. Let me know if you need more help on how to enter the code on verizon 8830, since I have experinced it twice I will be able to help you.

  • Zoltan says:

I have a Verizon BB 8830 without a SIM card. When I go through the steps of finding out whether or not the phone is locked to Verizon, all the personalizations for SIM, Network, Network Subset, Service Provider, and Corporate come up as “Unknown”. Does this mean that I’m “locked” or “unlocked”? I was expecting to see either Network “Active” – that is “Locked”, or Network “Inactive” – that is “unlocked”. Thanks for your reply in advance.

  • josh says:

hey what if they all say disabled except “network” says inactive?
does that mean the same thing as disabled?

    • admin says:

On CDMA phones such as Verizon and Sprint, they will say inactive instead of disabled. If it is ‘inactive’, then it is unlocked :)

  • Jose says:

I just bought a Blackberry 9650 and checked to see if my phone is unlocked. I followed your instructions but I only see. SIM Card: Security Disabled. Then ID: with a bunch of numbers following it. I typed MEPD but got nothing.

    • admin says:

Try to exit out of the SIM card options and reenter the SIM card options. MEPD does not need to be typed in Capital letters.

  • Jim says:

I have 8900 with AT&T. when page opens (like above) only sim card disabled, ID and phone number appears. I’m unable to type mepd.

  • Titus says:

What if all of the above say “unknown”? Is it locked or unlocked?

  • Juan says:

Hi i just purchased a blackberry curve 8900 and network says active. Does this mean its still locked? I am moving to South America, and i want to use my phone there, is it going to work perfectly with the phone being unlocked? this is my first time doing this. thanks for the time
