Dollar value of YOUR phone can impact the lives of 500

About a month ago, I received a phone call from a friend telling me about the economic and political issues occurring every day in Africa. Now I was aware of most of these things as I’m sure many of you are from the medias’ attempts to “raise awareness”. When we see images floating across our televesion screens, in newspapers, or in magazines, we always see the same thing – a malnourished child in rags, dry lips from dehydration, and a face of defeat. To top things off, these children are accompanied by a “celebrity” who have absolutely no relationship with them. Now what message are they trying convey? That fame influences people to give? That celebrities are good people?

Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s great that people are willing to give their money to support these organizations, and I have nothing against celebrities. But do you know how your money is being used? Is it being used to feed these children? Is it being used to provide them with shelter? Is it being used to make more commercials? To hire the next celebrity spokesperson? Who knows?
After speaking with a Canadian member of African leadership, we were compelled to donate to their cause. They don’t have any commercials or celebrities, but they seek to develop personal relationships with the children and youth by investing their lives in them. Sue from African Leadership said…

In too many townships within South Africa, children and youth fail to realize that their lives are valuable, let alone the potential that is stored up in each one to be significant. While working in the townships surrounding Cape Town, I had the privilege to take part in creating opportunities for young people to realize their value.

Through training and encouraging local volunteers, African Leadership has been able to reach up to 500 children and youth in the township of Kraaifontein to share a message of hope through community-based children’s churches. Weekly, children are being engaged in songs, games, hands-on activities and teachings of hope with their neighbours and peers. As well, local youth, who face crime, disease and broken families daily, are being raised up through leadership programs to be a positive influence in their communities through teaching the children with talents they never knew they had. All each child and youth has needed was the opportunity to know that they are a somebody.

Thank you Cellf Services for choosing to partner with us in our pursuit to bring hope.

We want to thank all of our clients at Cellf Services for using our services. The funds to donate to this cause came through YOU as well as the sale of one of our personal cellular phones: a used iPhone 3G 8gb, which was being used as an alarm clock and as a backup phone.

Our vision is to mobilize and to support those with the heart to serve. We welcome all who are interested to join us. Cellf Services will be accepting donations of all types of cellular phones in working condition. 100% of sales proceeds from donated cellular phones will go to organizations like African Leadership who share a similar vision in serving those abroad.

If you have a phone that’s being used as a paperweight, decoration, etc, we’d like to encourage you to join us in this project.

Very random that I came to your site, but I’m encouraged by your generosity. I use an iphone and the blackberry javelin as well (1 personal, 1 business). I’ll send an e-mail in the next week. I’m very interested in joining in your project.
